Large, vintage, mid-century, wall mount, wood coat rack with 4, big, rectangular-shaped pegs from the late 50's - early 60's.
Piece is made of wood with a clear, walnut-colored finish. Its design and style, is typical of the modernist era, and very similar to other works from the Reconstruction period (mid to late 50's - early to mid-60's.)
The design itself, is very much in the spirit and mindset, of some of the architects and designers from the same era, such as Perriand, Le Corbusier and Jeanneret. Interestingly enough, this rack, comes from the Dordogne region of France, where some of Perriand's pieces were once produced.
What's really nice about this particular rack, is that it's very large and the maker of the piece was thoughtful, in terms of the spatial placement of the large pegs. There is 22.5 cm in between each
peg, which would enable one to hang a lot of clothing, coats, etc.
The pegs themselves, are also large, with elongated bars that are "T-shaped." Each one, has a bar with a depth of 16cm and each peg, a height of 7.5 cm, so one could even place a number of hangers onto the longer piece, as well as use the peg, to hang whatever one needs to. Please note, that on the face of each peg, there are 2, angled holes, where nails were used to assemble/join the pegs, with the longer bars (see photos.)
The rack is in overall, very good, original, vintage condition, with some light marks, signs of age and usage commensurate with time (see photos.) There are light signs of wormwood on the pegs, (see photos), not to be confused with the aforementioned, angled holes, which can be expected for a piece of this age. A nice patina of time, is also present on the overall piece
There are three holes on the long base, in which to enable one to mount it on a wall (screws not provided.)
The rack is very solid, stable and sturdy. A great piece to hang on a wall whether in a entryway, bedroom, hallway, mudroom, etc., that would look great in a modern, contemporary or even rustic interior, like a chalet.
