Refined and elegant Austrian Art Deco coffee table in walnut; it has a very clean and linear shape, aesthetically sought after and pleasant; the upper round top is supported by solid legs with a wide section, to the middle of which is fixed another comfortable top, the structure thus constructed is very sturdy and stable; the upper top has been veneered in "orange wedge" with feather walnut that enhances the chromaticisms, the flaming and the grain of this beautiful wood, the same treatment has been done for the lower top. The coffee table was made between 1930 and 1935 in a craft workshop in Riegersburg, a small Austrian municipality in the Südoststeiermark district of Styria, which is famous for furniture production, limited production but of a high standard; the craftsmen were inspired by the desire to devise a small-sized object with firm, simple lines and gave the coffee table a timeless elegance; its design plays between austerity and rigorousness, and its exaggerated linearity gives the object a dynamic and stately character. The artisans used "Juglans regia" wood called "national walnut" or "European walnut," which is a highly prized wood, among the absolute best in terms of quality, ease of workmanship, and durability. Because of its preciousness and special technical characteristics, walnut wood lends itself to a wide variety of uses, but always in contexts of the highest quality, making it particularly popular in the luxury furniture sector. In addition, walnut wood has a good aptitude for finishing, particularly both sanding and varnishing and, finally, also polishing. Precisely polishing is also benefited by its ability not to impregnate: polishing waxes, therefore, act only on the surface without affecting the inside of the wood. Our coffee table has taken on a personal and unrepeatable charm, becoming a discreet and innovative piece of furniture, capable of creating calm and tranquil atmospheres, giving romanticism and sophistication to any type of furniture. It is a perfect and typical example of Art Deco, which, thanks to its charm and refinement is able to communicate suggestions of past times, tradition, and functionality. Measures diameter cm.75, height cm.62.
