New York-based interior designer Carolina von Humboldt has cultivated her cosmopolitan sophistication by living the most enviable life. Born in Paris to Spanish-German parents, she has traveled extensively throughout Europe and Latin America, and along the way she's become fluent in five languages. Her career began as a textile designer in Paris, where she also studied the ancient art of trompe l’oeil. She then became a color consultant before taking on curating projects for a range of fairs and institutions in France, Spain, and Germany. Thanks to her impeccable taste, clients began asking her to go into interior design. She has since decorated the Estée Lauder headquarters in Paris and the Bilboquet restaurants in New York and Atlanta, among other projects.
In Carolina's words, “Interior decoration is a balance that naturally brings about enduring flair; as much as dressing elegantly or setting a proper table, decorating is an art form that enhances style and comfort.” With the holiday season approaching, we just had to know what this design doyen has on her wish list.
Midcentury Dining Chairs by Vittorio Dassi
"These 1950s Italian chairs by Vittorio Dassi are light and easy to move. I always find heavy dining chairs very annoying. Plus, these are so amusing and whimsical. The open space in the back can also be seen as a heart ❤️!"
Fungo Floor Lamp by Gabriella Crespi
"We just purchased a pair of Gabriella Crespi table lamps that we love! This floor lamp also has great proportions. Of course, Crespi’s designs are always efficient and glamorous—a perfect combination!"
Art Deco Wall Mirror by Osvaldo Borsani
"This Borsani mirror has a beautiful touch of his early, Art Deco style. It would look perfect in an entrance or in bathroom with walnut paneling."
Grace Dining Table by Hagit Pincovici
"This thin and elegant table by Hagit Pincovici has a lovely airy feeling. When placed in the middle of a room, it won’t interrupt the overall lines."
Arenzano Table Lamps by Ignazio Gardella for Azucena
"Sleek and simple, these small Ignazio Gardella lamps give a beautiful defused light. They're ideal for a console table in the living room or bedside night lamps."
Art Deco Macassar Dressing Table & Chair
"A very sexy dressing table that can also be a small secretary at an angle in a bedroom."
Vintage 1970s Kiran Kilim Carpet
"The warm and soothing colors of this beautiful kilim would look fantastic in front of the fireplace!"
