About This Piece

Oil painting on canvas. Neapolitan school of the eighteenth-XVIII century. It is a traditional scene of the deposition of Christ from the cross, with the inert and pale body descended in the arms of the mother Mary, in turn embraced and supported in her pain by the disciple John, and to Around, to participate in the late, two pie women and two disciples. The scene is characterized by a diagonal descending linearity, which follows the body of Jesus, starting from the pole of the cross raised to the left and ends with the woman cared for embracing the Feet of Jesus on the right. At the around, a bare and gray background, which underlines the drama and the void that it creates. Cestored and restored, the painting is presented incornice of the early 1900s.
