In the spring of 2015, Saskatchewan ceramists Bonnie Gilmour and Charley Farrero were invited to participate in a ceramic residency in St. Quentin la Poterie, a small medieval pottery village in the south of France. The work produced during this residency was exhibited in France, and will now be shown at "Le Look" at the Mann Art Gallery.

Le Look consists of 14 ceramic face pots with hats. The face jars were created by Gilmour, while Farrero fashioned the ceramic hats, or lids. These jars are the artists' contemporary interpretation of the folk tradition of "ugly" face carters, which originated in the southern United States. The folk story is one of warning and judgment. Many years ago, it is said that the moon gap was placed in pottery jugs, but children used to take the drink. So the potters put evil faces on the jugs to scare the children. Later, jugs were also placed on burial sites to scare off evil spirits. Pottery with faces has a long tradition and appears in many cultures.
