About This Piece

Beautiful terracotta bust from the factory of Friedrich Goldscheider from the art nouveau period. It represents a female bust with her head turned 3/4. She has a headdress of leaves and other leaves covering her chest. On this bust several patinas are present including a golden patina giving the illusion of a gilded bronze. The work is signed by Chere and bears the stamp of the Goldscheider factory.

Friedrich Goldscheider founded the Goldscheider factory and the Majolica factory in Vienna around 1885.
It became one of the most influential ceramic manufacturers of terracotta, earthenware and bronze objects in Austria with branches in Paris, Leipzig and Florence. For more than half a century, Goldscheider created masterpieces of the historical revival, Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) and Art Deco.
