Clay Furniture, the landmark collection from visionary Dutch designer Maarten Baas, is a prime example of the raw, surreal, and lyrical approach that emerged in post-millennial design—an aesthetic Baas was integral in developing.

Embracing a kind of functional imperfection, each iconic piece from the Clay collection is available in eight colors and comprises hand-modeled synthetic clay composite applied over a simple metal skeleton. The hands-on process ensures that each piece is totally unique.

The importance of this collection is set to become ever more evident as the design history of the early 21st century is written. Many of the world’s most important museums have introduced examples of Clay Furniture into their permanent collections.

Each piece is signed. Made to order, it requires a production time of 8 weeks.

Front Door Delivery: (Included in Every Order)	A skilled driver will unload the item(s) from the delivery truck and bring it to your building’s doorstep. You will be responsible for further transport beyond that point. We recommend asking a family member or friend for an extra hand; alternatively, you may upgrade to In-Home Delivery (see below). The delivery partner will email and/or call you at least one day in advance to arrange a delivery time. A wooden crate may be used for intercontinental shipments for maximum protection. Item will be left in its packaging after delivery. A signature will be required upon delivery.
In-Home Delivery: (For in-home delivery service, additional fees apply. For unusually large or heavy items, we recommend asking a family member or friend for an extra hand, as we cannot send more than 2 drivers. About the Designer

Maarten Baas

Maarten Baas was born in Arnsberg, Germany in 1978, but moved to The Netherlands as a child. He studied at the renowned Design Academy Eindhoven and became widely recognized for Smoke, his 2002 graduation project, in which he used fire to “re-sculpt” a series of Victorian furniture pieces until they became charred. The school project evolved into a highly successful collection titled Where There’s Smoke, which museums, critics, and collectors swiftly deemed to be an important icon of 21^st-century design.

Since Smoke, Baas has regularly launched new collections, always introducing imaginative approaches to forms, materials, and processes. Limited-edition collections include Sculpt, Clay, Real Time, and Haphazard Harmony. Baas has also created a number of special commissions for museums and private collectors.
