About This Piece

Vintage Design

This oak sideboard is attributed to Henning Kjærnulf and was produced in Denmark during the 1960s. The four doors are carved in deep relief with raised quatrefoil panels set within chamfered frames, giving the front a heavy, sculptural character typical of his cabinetmaking.

The case stands on turned baluster legs joined by a floor-level stretcher, with brass escutcheons original to each door. The right-hand compartment was originally fitted with four drawers, three now missing; the drawer runners remain in place. The two remaining compartments open to adjustable shelving.

The oak is light and evenly toned, with strongly figured grain across the doors and top. Generous in scale and depth, the piece reads as distinctly Brutalist within the Danish cabinetmaking tradition.

A substantial and well-constructed example of 1960s Danish production.
