This exceptionally rare “Turiguanó” sofa, designed around 1959–1960 by Cuban modernist Gonzalo Córdoba and manufactured by the renowned DUJO Muebles company in Havana, represents one of the most iconic and elusive pieces of mid-century Cuban furniture design. Handcrafted from solid Cuban mahogany and upholstered in natural cowhide, this model was originally commissioned for the Palace of the Revolution, serving in the private and governmental interiors of Fidel Castro’s administration.

Córdoba’s design ethos fused Scandinavian-inspired modernism with tropical Cuban craftsmanship — bold proportions, cylindrical armrests, and a deeply architectural frame define the Turiguanó’s aesthetic.
