Big In-folio Volume Baldwin and Cradock, London Majestic work collection most of Hogarth’s graphic production, printed from the original plates. Restored by James Heath. The Volume includes 1 frontispiece, 6 pages of the biographical essay on the artist, 1 index page, 42 pages of descriptions of subjects represented in the graphic works and 116 illustrated pages including 100 tables from Hogart’s plates and 54 plates after Hogarth, designed by other artists. Among the tables, some of the Hogart’s most famous series like “A Rake’s Progress” (8 tables), “The four stages of cruelty” (4 tables) “Industry and Idleness” (10 tables). Wonderful and fresh impressions. Center fold on frontispiece, some stains in the index pages, frontispiece and frist table of the biographical essay reinforce with cloth. Tables are in excellent conditions, except a light and minor foxing on some of them. Binding in half-leather and marbleized carboard, spine with 6 nerves with decorations in gilt. Some scrapes on binding. Ref. Paulson, pag. 20/21, which affirms: at least four editions followed that of 1822: (2) (1828?) the same title page, essay, and explanation, but reset, and only 116 sheets, 153 plates; the colophon, says the edition was 'Printed by Jas. Wade, 18, Tavistock-Street [...]'. The next three editions, issued between 1828 and 1840 without date, have an added plate after Hogarth (Charity in the Cellar, dated 1837) and say on the title page: Printed for Baldwin and Cradock by G. Woodfall, Angel Court, Skinner Street. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the licence according to the final destination of the artwork.
