This folding dining table from the award-winning Sóley series, designed by Valdimar Harðarson for Kusch+Co, is a true rarity of 1980s postmodern design. The centerpiece of the design is the high-gloss chrome frame, which features an ingenious folding mechanism that gives the table its exceptional flexibility. The round, white tabletop with its characteristic black plastic edge is split in the middle, allowing for versatile use: the table can be used in its entirety, folded down halfway as a console table against a wall, or folded completely flat. In this fully folded state, it becomes an extremely slim object that can be easily stored even in the smallest niches. This construction makes the Sóley a masterpiece of space utilization without compromising on aesthetics. The graphic contrast of the white surface, black border, and cool stainless steel perfectly reflects the spirit of the 1980s.
