In just two years since earning her BFA from MICA, Maryland-based ceramist Dana Bechert has caused quite a stir among New York tastemakers. It’s only a matter of time before her reputation spreads abroad.
This Peach Pour-Over Funnel is handcrafted in vitrified porcelain and features a layered, geometric surface pattern, which Bechert achieves by coating the unglazed pot in pigmented slip and then carving it away to reveal the white clay beneath. The interior is carved with a spiraling relief pattern, making it a highly functional tool for pour-over coffee making. The star shape at the small opening allows for freshly brewed coffee to drip easily from the funnel.
Bechert’s aesthetics and techniques are inspired by Native American ceramics and a passion for sustainable and socially minded practices. Meet the face of young craft production in the U.S.
