About This Piece

Vintage Design

This extraordinary set of six chairs, created by Aldo Tura in the 1960s, is a rare and valuable example of his work.
Aldo Tura (1909-1963), an eccentric and brilliant figure in Milanese design, made a name for himself on the international scene thanks to his visionary use of unusual and refined materials, transforming furniture and accessories into authentic works of art.
His preference for refined surfaces, such as parchment and goatskin, combined with a sculptural sensibility and an almost alchemical approach to design, made each of his pieces unique and instantly recognizable.
The six chairs offered here belong to an extremely limited production and are now considered extremely rare on the collectors' market.

The structure is completely covered in light-colored parchment, an iconic material that Tura elevated to a true trademark.
The craftsmanship of the parchment, applied with meticulous precision, brings out subtle nuances and natural transparencies, giving the surface a vibrant and iridescent character.
The design stands out for its high, slightly curved backrest, which gives the form momentum and verticality, accentuating the tension between the clean lines and the imposing stage presence. The legs, integrated into the volume of the chair with formal continuity, reinforce its sculptural appearance, making the structure visually solid yet elegant.
The seats have been reupholstered in green linen velvet, a choice that renews the seats while maintaining stylistic consistency with the original spirit. The velvet, soft to the touch and with an iridescent surface, creates a refined color contrast with the light parchment, reinforcing the sophisticated identity of the whole.
This conservative restoration work restores the set to full functionality without compromising its historical authenticity.
The design, which combines simplicity and refinement, fully reflects Tura's philosophy: to transcend the boundary between functionality and decorative art, transforming an everyday object into an aesthetic experience.
It is no coincidence that many of his works are now on display in major museums and form part of prestigious private collections.
This group of six chairs is therefore not only a piece of furniture but a true collector's item, destined to embellish exclusive settings, whether private homes, galleries, or representative spaces. Their rarity and state of preservation make them a unique opportunity for collectors and admirers of great Italian post-war design.
The general condition is excellent, as shown in the photographs, with minor signs of wear consistent with the age and originality of the chairs.

Aldo Tura (1909–1963) was a renowned Italian designer and craftsman known for his contribution to 20th-century design. His career focused primarily on the production of furniture and furnishings, and he founded the eponymous company "Tura Milano," which became famous for creating high-quality pieces with a distinctive style.
Tura's production ranged from furniture to smaller objects such as trays and lamps, and his works often feature the use of fine materials such as parchment, leather, and brass. His designs are known for blending classic elegance and modernity, with a particular attention to artisanal details.
The 1960s were a significant period for Aldo Tura, and many of his pieces from that decade are still highly sought after by collectors and vintage design enthusiasts. His work helped define Italian style in the furniture design industry, and his legacy continues to influence the world of design.

About the Creator

Aldo Tura

Aldo Tura

Born in 1909, Italian designer-maker Aldo Tura established his furniture production house in Lombardy in 1939. Working between the idioms of Art Deco and modernism, Tura created singular, high-end furniture and accessories that were typified by rich materials, sculptural forms, and high-end, artisanal techniques. Tura’s work has become highly collectible, especially examples with exotic finishes— like eggshell, goatskin, and parchment—in intense palettes of red, green, and yellow.

Tura was one of the most unique design talents of the Italian midcentury. In the postwar years, as many furniture producers were adjusting their production methods toward mass production, Tura remained committed to slow, traditional hand craftsmanship. He favored intricate, complex forms and labor-intensive processes that could never by replicated in a large-scale factory system. As a result, the number of works by Tura available on the vintage market remains limited.

Today, Tura’s company continues to produce high-end, deco-esque furniture in Lombardy, but much information about Tura himself has been lost to history. The Brooklyn Museum in New York owns a handful of Tura designs that were originally exhibited in the 1950-53 traveling exhibition Italy at Work: Her Renaissance in Design Today.
