About This Piece

Vintage Design

Extraordinary antique pine bridal cupboard which dates to about 1825. This cabinet has a simple design but is beautifully painted in a fresh blue color with floral decorations in the panels. The light blue paint has worn off beautifully over the years giving it a characteristic appearance. Some restorations have been done at one time, for example the top frame of the crest and the legs have been replaced. However, these have been professionally touched up. The inside still has most of the original interior, with shelves, drawer, coat hooks and a later added rod. The cabinet still has the original working lock with key. It used to be customary to give bridal furniture like this as a gift to the couple at a wedding. This furniture was afterwards placed on the farm in a showroom that was only rarely used for high visits or special occasions. So a beautiful and decorative piece of history. This specimen is from southern Germany (Franconia). 185cm high, 135cm wide, 50cm deep.
