Particular couple "cassolettes" marble with bronze finishes; They have a round base with a small central column which supports a circular saucer; under the base there are three bronze legs to improve stability; always under the base of a cassolette you notice a vintage repair (see photo); the couple is very elegant and well-proportioned; the "cassolettes" were vessels or containers (incense burners) that were placed on the upper edge of a couple chimneys or one on each side at the side of a watch or a clock (we also suggest the bookend function ); They were often of precious metal, bronze or marble; our couple belongs to the latter category, in fact consists of two very special and rare marble, the green one, the base of the columns, is the Green Alps, It has a shade of dark green background that at first glance may seem smooth, but actually has an infinite number of light and dark shades and white veins that characterize and distinguish it; is the marble which has one of the most beautiful shades of green in the world; This type of marble was mined since ancient times in the Aosta Valley, in the Western Alps and has been used in the construction of Santa Maria Novella Station in 1848. The other marble is a variety of rare Orange Numidian Sanguine, it has a wonderful facility and an orange background intense crossed by a network of more or less thick white and yellowish veins; comes from the quarries of Algiers, but the processing of finishing and polishing is carried out in the area of Carrara (Italy), it is a marble known and appreciated since antiquity. Our two ornaments were produced in France between 1870 and 1880 in a Napoleon III style or late empire. Measures D.cm.12 H.cm.17.
