Mid-Century Scandinavian Modernist Series 800G Model 812G Chairs in Wood and Red Skai by Max Bill for Baumann, 1955, Set of 2

The N°800 G chair was designed by Max Bill, Swiss architect and designer, for the manufacturer Franc Comtois Baumann in 1955. Max Bill here takes advantage of the characteristics of plywood to offer these chairs a curved, comfortable and welcoming back. The result is a unique, very graphic design, whose lines are highlighted by the use of textured & colored leatherette. The series of 6 800G chairs is therefore a Baumann production intended for the home as well as bistros and restaurants. It’s a light, colorful chair, whose particular silhouette sounds like a promise of comfort and vintage!

Max Bill's Baumann chairs are old, dating from the 1950s. The compass base is made of solid wood, beech. The seat and back are made of thermoformed plywood. The color is light, golden. The chairs have traces of use including small gaps on the backs and the green grooved leatherette. They are robust, solid and perfectly functional.
