Michel Buffet Mid-Century Modern white B201 desk lamp designed in 1953. The production of this re-edition lamps, wall lights and floor lamps are manufactured using craftsman’s techniques with the same materials and techniques as the first models. Each lamp has a personal serial number and a specific “Certificate of Authenticity” when delivered. He enrolled at the École national supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, where he was taught by Louis Sognot, one of the founders of the Union des artistes modernes movement. After receiving Engineer and Interior Architect degrees, he focused on creating objects: furniture and home fixtures that were subject to limited editions. His meeting with Jacques Viénot, creator of Technès, guided his career towards what was then called industrial design. His iconic lamps are made from white-lacquered sheet metal and varnished brass. The dozen or so models he designed are strikingly sculptural, consisting of an assemblage of rounded forms partly inspired by the architecture of Oscar Niemeyer. Each lighting design is a concept refined down to its essence by Minimalist forms and clean lines. The pieces, first presented in 1953 at two trade fairs in Paris’s Grand Palais — were manufactured for only about five or six years. As it happens, they have received renewed interest over the past decade so seven of Buffet’s vintage models have been reedited. Available in black; please contact Pamono with your preference.
