About This Piece

Vintage Design

Distinctive vintage folding chair produced in China for the export market from the mid 1960s - 1980, retaining the original "Made in China" label with the Chinese export mark "Huáqiáu" (Overseas Chinese).

The chairs features a chrome-plated tubular steel frame paired with moduled plywood seat and backrest of imitated rosewood, presenting a restrained modernist expression. It's clean lines , balanced proportions and functional folding mechanism reflect a clear dialouge with European mid-century institutional and ulitarian furniture, reintrepreted in late 20'th. century Asian export production.
Solid hinge contruction and balanced proportions lend both durability and sculptural presence.
Original patina and light wear consistant with age contribute to the chairs authentic vintage character.
