Inspired by the Maasai people of northern Tanzania and southern Kenya, Serena Confalonieri’s Masai collection includes vibrant, handmade, hand-painted vases and mirrors embellished with eco-leather. Confalonieri drew on the centuries-old material production of the Maasai, especially their distinctive use of bright colors and strong graphic forms in everything from masks and jewelry to body painting. She sees the collection as an homage, one she hopes will encourage others to appreciate “the beauty and the pride of this venerable culture.”
Based in Milan, Confalonieri is an art director who also designs objects and interiors. Her work has been featured in a variety of publications, including The New York Times, Corriere della Sera, Wallpaper, Interni, L’Officiel, and Elle Décor.
