About This Piece

Vintage Design

This astonishing chair comes from the personal collection of a former employee of an armchair manufacturing workshop. It is said to be a prototype of the Dutch architect Bas Van Pelt. A lounge and all-wood version of the designer's famous armchairs, this is a more relaxed, extremely interesting and comfortable version.
The chair's bold formal design is modernist and dynamic. The curved armrests carry the seat and backrest together in a flexible and ergonomic cantilever. On this prototype, wooden slats replace the corn rope traditionally used on armchairs. The modernist character of the chair is reinforced by its two-tone red and white lacquer.
The chair dates from the first half of the 20th Century. Its design is typical of the modern movement. It is made of solid wood, some traces of use are visible on the paint.
