Entirely crafted in chiseled gilded brass, champlevé by hand, this rare piece seduces with its radiant floral motifs and its colored glass cabochons in precious tones (ruby red, emerald green, amber yellow, crystal white).

Designed to adorn a statue of the Virgin Mary in a church, this crown is typical of the popular sacred art of southern Europe: we imagine it surmounting a Madonna dressed in rich brocades, in the subdued light of a chapel or oratory. This crown was probably diverted from its original use as a sacred decoration, to be used as a theater prop, or during processions, by having real people wear it, by personifying characters from biblical stories in the 19th century.
