Large Mid-Century Modern Coiled Rattan Floor Vase, 1970s

This large floor vase is constructed from continuously coiled natural rattan reeds, forming an amphora-inspired silhouette. The construction features a flared rim, a neck that constricts slightly before expanding into a wide shoulder, and a body that tapers uniformly toward a stable base. The fabrication method involves wrapping structural framing with uniform horizontal rows of split cane, creating a ribbed linear texture across the entire exterior surface. This geometric pattern creates subtle horizontal shadows depending on directional lighting. Dating to the 1970s, the piece represents the organic modern movement of the late twentieth century. The natural rattan has developed a uniform honey-toned patina over time, with minor surface variations and wear consistent with age and careful preservation. The structural integrity remains intact without loose or unraveled reeds. This vessel functions well as a large architectural accent in minimalist, mid-century modern, or contemporary residential interiors. Its scale makes it suitable for placement directly on the floor in entryways, living areas, or corner spaces, either as a standalone object or holding dry botanical elements. The clear focus on material honesty and graphic repetition makes it a clean example of 1970s casual luxury decor.
