French Inlaid Rosewood Display Cabinet or Vitrine with Ormolu Mounts, 1880s

Vintage Design

Attractively proportioned French inlaid rosewood vitrine or display cabinet with ormolu mounts c1880. Rectangular cabinet with shaped apron raised on four slender, tapering cabriole legs. Fine floral and scroll marquetry to top and front with veneers to front door laid on the bias. Ormolu cornice to top and ormolu mounts to the front with sabots to all four feet. Glass top panel over a three glazed panel cabinet with shaped, glazed front door enclosing a single glass shelf. All glass panels are of period glass bordered by shaped brass moldings. Knife hinges to the front door which has a working lock and key. Original oak back. Relined in quality champagne velvet. The cabinet is 112 cm in height, maximum width is 63 cm and the maximum depth is 42 cm. The last image shown is with the addition of temporary internal cabinet lighting which is not included however we are able to recommend suitable alternatives.
