About This Piece

Engelbert Ergo was a well known master in Antwerp in the mid seventeenth century. His work is quite rare on the market. Other known works are the sacking of Troy & Orpheus and the animals. Here the artist depicts an Allegory of Patience by way of a central figure, symbolizing faith personified, surrounded by the horrors of War & slain innocents, as symbolized by the Lamb. It has been professionally cleaned and restored with the sole purpose to preserve it for the future while maintaining as much of the original work as possible. New canvas on the back. Sits in the original frame of the time.
