Henriëtte Jansen

Painter, ceramist, interior decorator, and designer Henriëtte Jansen was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 1958. She is a descendant of Henri Jansen, the founder of Maison Jansen, widely considered the world’s first global design firm. Jansen graduated from the Lausanne Hotel School, Switzerland in 1979. Between 1980 and 1983, she served as director of marketing and public relations for Bilderberg, a Dutch hotel chain. She went on to study painting and design at the Academy of Art in San Francisco from 1984 to 1985.

In 1986, Jansen established a painting studio in Paris, where she continues to live and work. For ten years, she painted and exhibited in both Paris and the Netherlands, with commissions for clients such as Esprit and Suzy Tompkins. During the same period, she began to renovate homes and learned to make ceramics. In 1995, Jansen launched a home design line that has since grown to include organically shaped, ceramic tableware; custom rugs made in Nepal; lighting; and small wooden and ceramic tables. She continues to work regularly on interior design commissions.

Jansen has collaborated with Designers Guild, Donna Karan, Boizel Champagne, Diptyque, fashion designer Alix Thomsen, and the upcycled Hermès line, Petit h, among others. Since 1999, she has frequently exhibited her work at the Maison & Objet trade fairs, and has had solo exhibitions of her ceramics at the Carlin Gallery and Maxalto in Paris.
