“Creating objects is like playing with the forces of nature on a different scale,” say Dutch Designer . His work evolves from his focus on the natural sciences and the way that materials behave. He aims to reveal the beauty that’s inherent in how things are made.
Derksen graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2009 and went on to complete his MSc degree from the Industrial Design TU Delft in 2011. During his studies, he launched his studio in Rotterdam to develop his lighting, furniture, and interiors product designs, both self-initiated and on commission. In the past few years, he's been collaborating with fellow Dutch design Lex Pott on projects for the Transnatural Art & Design Label.
Derksen exhibits every year during Salone del Mobile in Milan and Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. His studio collaborates with international brands and galleries, including New Works, Arco, and Vivid Gallery. In 2015, Derksen was nominated for the Young Designer Award as part of the Dutch Design Awards. Currently he is a guest teacher at Master Industrial Design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and Product Design at Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam.
