Vintage Design

Organically shaped side chair in teak designed by the Danish designer Johannes Andersen.

The comfortable chair features a solid carefully shaped teak frame with lots of organic shapes that mingle into each other creating a fascinating mixture of soft elegant rounded shapes combined with straight lines creating a fascinating chair that is beautiful from all angles.

The chairs have been checked, carefully restored and refinished by our cabinetmakers to ensure that they are in very good condition with only minimal signs of age and use and will be reupholstered without extra cost in "Kvadrat" fabric and colour of your choice before they are shipped.

Detailed Condition	Restored — This vintage/antique item is in very good condition because it has been refreshed through new upholstery and/or refinishing.
Restoration and Damage Details	Light wear consistent with age and use, Reupholstered, Completely restored, Surface has been refinished, All joints checked and reglued under pressure if any signs of getting loose, all other needed repairs made, frames samded 2 - 3 ttimes by hand and vaxed 2 - 3 times. Seats deupholstered and reupholstered with new straps, foam and fabric.

About the Creator

Johannes Andersen

While information on designer Johannes Andersen is limited and difficult to verify, it is believed that he was born in 1903 in Aarhus, Denmark, and that he initially apprenticed as a cabinetmaker. He went on to work for many years in a number of workshops before opening his own architectural and furniture workshop in the 1930s.

Andersen’s designs span seating, tables, and storage in well-crafted materials, such as rosewood and teak. His career paralleled the midcentury’s growing appreciation for Danish furniture designs, and he attracted international attention—particularly for coffee tables like the highly sculptural Smile Table.

Andersen worked steadily for his own firm—as well as Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian companies such as Trensum, CFC Silkeborg, Bramin, and Uldum Møbelfabrik—until he closed his shop in his eighties. He passed away in 1991.
