About This Piece

Contemporary Design

Hand-knotted in a special blend of Ghazni wool, this 4x4 square rug is a new addition to Rug & Kilim’s custom-classics Burano Collection—enjoying a design inspired by antique Caucasian rugs and textiles On the Design: Admirers of the craft may appreciate that this particular design draws on Caucasian Soumak bag textiles of the late 19th century, used by nomads in their daily lives, and often teeming with rich designs and folk art. In this design, a creamy beige field and blue border underscores large-scale geometric patterns and medallions inspired by tribal motifs, sporting brick red, bright blue, and even gold hues among the many traditional colors at play. Keen eyes for the tactile will further appreciate an especially soft, comfortable texture and beauty inherent to the Ghazni wool that underscores this piece. It’s an intentional contribution to a classic for a more contemporary level of comfort, and one of the many beauties that makes this collection a sophisticated, smart new language in design.
