Boomerang desk by Peter Løvig Nielsen in teak. Denmark, 1960's.
Teak desk by Peter Løvig Nielsen, Denmark, Hedensted Mobelfabrik edition. Dated 1968 on the stamp.

High-quality workmanship and exemplary cabinetmaking finishes, with its boomerang-shaped top, airplane wing edges and slender base connected to the desk by turned wooden rods ending in a brass sleeve.

Perfect ergonomics on the worktop with the boomerang shape.

A 3-drawer block with a key-operated drawer, the same key closes the drop-down door to the bar area, which is fitted with a shelf and a silk-screened mirror as a backdrop.

Representative of the elegance and refinement of Danish furniture.

The top has been restored: eco-label varnish. Very good vintage condition.

About the Creator

Peter Løvig Nielsen

There is currently no verifiable biographical information available on the Danish designer Peter Løvig Nielsen.

Designing in the Scandinavian modern style that took the design world by storm in the 1950s and ‘60s, Løvig Nielsen is known for his wooden desks, tables, and storage units. Like many of his Danish contemporaries, Løvig Nielsen favored high-quality and beautifully grained woods such as teak, rosewood, and walnut, and his designs often featured tapered legs and organic curved edges. One of his most well-known designs is sometimes referred to as the Boomerang Desk (c.1956) which features an L-shaped table top on V-shaped legs with subtle brass detailing.

Although he was relatively unknown in the mid-century era, Løvig Nielsen’s designs have been rediscovered in the 21st century by vintage dealers due to the unusual ease in identifying them. Stamped “Løvig” or “Hedensted Møbelfabrik” for the Danish village in which they were produced, as well as the year of production, Løvig Nielsen’s beautifully crafted designs are experiencing a vintage revival.
