Vintage Design

This exceptional Art Nouveau wall mirror (c. 1900-1910) embodies the craftsmanship of the French École de Nancy. Made of solid wood with intricate, hand-carved chrysanthemum motifs and three-dimensional gilding, it displays the characteristic Japonisme influence and naturalistic design language of this important art period.

The original faceted mirror glass and openwork carvings underscore its premium quality. The chrysanthemum—a symbol of perfection in Japanese culture—was a popular but rare motif in French Art Nouveau.

Stylistically close to the work of Louis Majorelle and the Nancy School, this mirror represents the golden age of Art Nouveau, when designers such as Majorelle, Gallé, and Vallin won world's fairs and revolutionized the international design world.
