About This Piece

Vintage Design

A Masterclass in Murano Glassmaking
Crafted around 1910 by the renowned Toso brothers on the island of Murano, this exquisite vase is a stunning testament to early 20th-century Italian glass artistry.
The body of the vessel showcases a mesmerizing tapestry of finely detailed, colorful floral murrine. These intricate glass elements were meticulously sliced from handcrafted glass canes, artfully arranged on a plate, fused with heat, and gathered onto the glassblower's pipe for a seamless roll-up technique. Two gracefully applied handles complete the silhouette, while the base features an authentic central pontil mark, underscoring its traditional craftsmanship.
Unlike the high-gloss finishes commonly found on later pieces, the surface of this vase has been delicately acid-etched to achieve a sophisticated, soft-touch matte finish that accentuates the depth and complexity of the mosaic pattern beneath.
While pieces of this caliber were a commercial mainstay for Murano artisans throughout the early decades of the 20th century due to their immense popularity, finding examples featuring such rare, intricate floral canes and pristine execution remains a delightful discovery for collectors today. It offers an accessible entry point into fine antique art glass without compromising on historical significance or visual impact.
