Art Deco French Companion Ceramic Vases from Odyv Berlot-Mussier, 1930s, Set of 2

A rare companion pair of authentic French Art Deco ceramic vases produced by the ODYV Berlot-Mussier manufactory in Vierzon, France, circa 1930.
Although they are two distinct documented models, the vases share the same unusual textured white and brown glaze, closely related proportions and complementary spherical silhouettes. Displayed together, they create the visual coherence of an intentionally conceived decorative pair while retaining the individual character of two different ODYV designs.
The first vase, model 9P, features a pure globular silhouette articulated by concentric horizontal bands. Its richly textured pale surface is interrupted by smooth, glossy bands ranging in tone from warm brown to almost black. The underside bears the impressed ODYV manufactory mark and model designation.
The second vase, model 4928, has a similarly rounded body but is distinguished by four stepped geometric handles positioned around the shoulder. These architectural projections give the piece a more pronounced Art Deco character and create a striking sculptural profile. The underside bears the model number 4928 together with additional manufacturer’s marks.
The exceptional quality of this pairing lies in the combination of difference and continuity. The two vases are not identical reproductions: they are separate ODYV models united by the same distinctive glaze, period, scale and visual language. Assembling two marked examples with such closely coordinated surfaces is considerably more difficult than finding an individual vase.
Their compact spherical forms, tactile surfaces and strongly architectural details make them particularly effective when displayed together on a console, mantelpiece, sideboard or within a curated ceramic collection. from a distance they read as a harmonious composition; at closer range, their contrasting structural details reveal the individuality of each design.
A distinctive opportunity for collectors seeking an original and visually cohesive pair of marked French Art Deco ceramics rather than two conventionally identical vases.
