Art Deco Chinese Square Floral Wool Rug by Rug & Kilim, India

Hand-knotted in wool, this 6x6 square rug is a sophisticated addition to Rug & Kilim’s Art Deco collection. This piece functions as a serene, atmospheric canvas that honors historic Chinese Deco floral motifs through a bold, contemporary lens. On the Design: This contemporary rug recaptures the poetic Chinese Art Deco style of the 1920s. The Chinese Deco movement was born from a fascinating cultural synthesis, as early 20th-century weavers reimagined traditional Eastern aesthetics; such as ancient botanical symbolism and asymmetrical landscape art—through the streamlined, glamorous world of the Western Art Deco movement. This piece honors that legacy with a sweeping, luminous celadon green field, a hue historically revered in Chinese culture as a symbol of harmony and renewal. This deliberate use of open negative space serves as a serene canvas for gracefully trailing botanicals, beautifully capturing the painterly elegance and spatial freedom that defined the roaring twenties. The sinuous vines, delicate leaves, and oversized peony blossoms offer a breathtaking, polychromatic contrast in shades of soft pink, warm gold, and slate blue. This is a masterpiece of fine detail that reimagines both the elegant and whimsical beauties found in historic Deco pieces, effortlessly bridging Eastern heritage with Western chromatic boldness. Today, this iconic aesthetic resonates beautifully in interior design, offering a versatile square foundation that brings a splash of romantic glamour to both curated, eclectic spaces and starkly contemporary rooms. It is a highly authoritative textile that translates a golden era of design for the current home. Custom Capable: All sizes and colors available
